Plum

Treasure in my grandmother's
                       back yard
Cherry giant pulling down
                       branches
Deep purple black
                       outside
Perfect pink ruby
                        inside
Obscenely juicy

Cotillion For the Absent

Missing girls should be careful
Or someone just might find them,
Send them home to mom and dad
To be good and sweet again.

Stay hidden in the open
In fields of purple flowers,
Under mounds of rich brown earth,
Or floating in pools of blue.

Being found - overrated.
Discovery is an end.
Vigil candles all snuffed out,
Pretty posters in the trash.

Absence is a luxury
Enjoyed by only a few.
Guard it with ferocity;
Don't let mourners get to you.

Live only in memory.
Stay out of present tense.
Haunt us when you feel lonely.
Don't pretend you still exist.

Misplaced Boy

Misplaced boy babbling rebellion
Fights off affection with black hair and clothes.
Dream child flees into pleasant depression
Playing only with boys nobody knows.

Baby blue boy hides crisis with cutting,
Opens a secret too smart for the cure.
Confusing thoughts always meandering,
Only the suffering can remake him pure.

Hypersexual with an attachment disorder -
Pain is enjoyment, disaster a dream.
Ready to vanish, backed into a corner,
Never as innocent as he once seemed.

Untried, unfocused, unfinished, unhinged,
Burn in a terrible, beautiful binge.

Chaos

Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With trees just a shell
And beds gone to hell
And dandelions all in a row.

Lost

Missing girls should be careful,
Or someone just might find them,
Send them home to mom and dad
To be good and sweet again.

Stay hidden in the open
In fields of purple flowers,
Under mounds of dark brown earth,
Or floating in pools of blue.

Being found - overrated;
Discovery is an end.
Vigil candles all snuffed out,

Pretty posters in the trash.

Absence is a luxury
Enjoyed by only a few.
Guard it with ferocity.
Don't let mourners get to you.

Live only in memory.
Stay out of present tense.
Haunt us when you feel lonely.
Don't pretend you still exist.

Ink

Tattoo me in gentian violet
From these fingers to these toes.
Teach me something secret
Something no one else can know.

Sleeve these arms in cherry blossoms,
Petals falling to the floor,
And silent wings aflutter
Always seeking something more.

Smooth this back with dancing Shiva
As her mighty arms destroy,
Then recreate the universe
Into one of boundless joy.

Stamp this belly with a comic face.
Make me laugh all day and night.
Keep me from ever noticing
The impending terror and fright.

Shroud these legs in lines of poetry;
Encircle calves, then knees and thighs
In the words of Cummings and Emily
To walk in beauty all of my days.
